A quick history of Ryan
The Federal Electorate of Ryan was created in 1948 and named for Thomas Joseph Ryan, Premier of Queensland from 1915-19. He resigned to enter federal politics in 1919, and was elected to the seat of West Sydney later that year. He fell ill with pneumonia and died in office in 1921.

A quick profile of Ryan
Ryan covers the north-western suburbs of Brisbane including Anstead, Ashgrove, Auchenflower, Bardon, Bellbowrie, Brookfield, Chapel Hill, Chuwar, Enoggera Reservoir, Enoggera, Ferny Grove, Fig Tree Pocket, Gaythorne, Indooroopilly, Karana Downs, Kenmore, Kenmore Hills, Kholo, Lake Manchester, Mitchelton, Moggill, Mount Coot-tha, Mount Crosby, Paddington, Pinjarra Hills, Pullenvale, St Lucia, Taringa, The Gap, Toowong, Upper Brookfield and Upper Kedron. Redistribution
The recent redistribution (December 2009) saw Ryan lose all of its territory south of the river, including Jindalee, Westlake, Mount Ommaney, Riverhills and Sumner. These areas were transferred to Oxley. In exchange Ryan gained Ferny Grove, Mitchelton, Enoggera and Bardon from Brisbane
