Michael Johnson MP, Federal Member for Ryan, today hailed the Inaugural Ryan Rocks Concert as a great success. The 2009 Ryan Rocks Concert was held on Friday, October 23 at St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School, The Gap and attracted an audience in the hundreds. Competition winners, WheeleR, took home a $1000 cash prize donated by Mr Johnson.

Guest judges included James Chalmers, Editor of the Westside News; Paul Currie, Kid Rock Productions; Rhonda Davidson-Irwin, Viva La Musica; David Doherty, Forte School of Music; John Willsteed, QUT Creative Industries; and Tyson Illingworth AKA DJ tyDI, Australia’s Number one DJ.

“It’s great to see such amazing talent brought together under one roof. It’s opportunities to perform like this that aspiring musicians live for, and so rarely get, and that was something I wanted to provide. The night couldn’t have gone better and I couldn’t be happier with the results.” Mr Johnson said.

“I’d like to congratulate all those involved and who put their time into this great event. Thank you to the performers especially, those who entered, the parents and friends who attended the evening, my staff and the panel of judges who so graciously gave their time in support of young talent in Ryan. I would also like to thank our Master of Ceremony, Inspector Joe Joyce of the Queensland Police, and our sponsors: Kid Rock Productions, The Forte School of Music, Billy Hyde Music, and Sonnic Beat Sound Lighting and Productions. A special thanks also to St Peter Chanel Catholic Primary School for providing us with a perfect venue. Without them the evening wouldn’t have been possible.”

“I look forward to receiving new entries for Ryan Rocks 2010 and to an even bigger year!”

Mr Johnson congratulated all those involved in Ryan Rocks in a speech to Parliament yesterday.
