Federal Member for Ryan, Michael Johnson today said he was blown away with the success of the Thomas the Tank Engine Family Fun Day initiative, which kicked off for the first time on the weekend. Mr Johnson estimated that 5000 local residents attended over the two days. “The bar has been set very high for us next year and I almost can’t wait for next year’s Family Fun Day!” Mr Johnson said. The Thomas the Tank Engine Family Fun Day, held at ANZAC Park in Toowong, was an initiative of Mr Johnson, with generous support from Councillor for the Toowong Ward, Peter Matic. The weekend provided local children with the opportunity to meet a life-size model of the popular children’s character and listen to the Fat Controller tell stories of the Island of Sodor. Local families were also treated to a free land train ride. Face painting, a sausage sizzle, free balloons and two free jumping castles were on offer. Mr Johnson also provided free watermelon to families who attended after a generous donation of half a ton of watermelon from a local resident. “Family Fun Day is about family, fun, friendship and our local community coming together to enjoy our beautiful outdoors and sunshine.” Mr Johnson said. “We didn’t expect so many people, but attendance across Saturday and Sunday was clearly in the thousands. I really wanted to provide an opportunity for families to get out, enjoy each other’s company and the great surroundings on offer in the Ryan Electorate. The Family Fun Day provided the perfect opportunity to bring the community together for a truly fantastic event. Happily, I have received very wonderful feedback! ”. Mr Johnson took the opportunity to spend time with his three year old son, Ryan, who thoroughly enjoyed the weekend along with other local children. Mr Johnson expressed thanks to all those who made the event possible. “I would like to thank The Workshops Railway Museum for transporting their equipment out of the museum for only the second time; to Councillor Peter Matic and RACQ for their sponsorship; to Girl Guides and the Brisbane Inner West Lions Club for the stalls they ran across the weekend; to Grasshopper Jumping Castles, Rent-a-Cop and Expresso Delight Coffee; and especially to all those thousands of local families who attended.” Mr Johnson said. END.
