Federal Member for Ryan, Michael Johnson MP today questioned the motives of the Rudd Labor Government’s $250 million taxpayers gift to the commercial networks, at the expense of veterans, GP Super clinics, the homeless, hospitals and aged care homes which continue to be under funded and placed in the ‘too hard’ basket.

“While the networks receive a cash influx for questionable reasons, the amount of priceless taxpayer funds that is wasted on failed and broken promises continues to rise.

PROMISES:
 Trades Training Centres - only one of a promised 2650 will accept students this semester;
 More child care centres in schools and TAFES - only one has opened its doors;
 GP Super Clinics – only two are fully operational of the promised 31;
 2500 new aged-care beds – only 52 opened in the last two years;

WASTAGE:
 $25M to “re-educate” Taliban soldiers;
 $19M to safety check 48,000 homes from the botched $2.4B insulation program;
 $1B in consultancy contracts;
 $1.5M sending & accommodating delegates to Copenhagen.

“While our veterans remain ignored, our aged care facilities crumble and more beds are desperately needed; while the waiting lists at public hospitals get longer and our children’s education suffers, Labor puts rich TV stations first with a highly unusual $250 million gift,” Mr Johnson said.
