How much time do I spend in Canberra?
I travel to and live in Canberra whenever the House of Representatives is sitting. When I am not in Canberra I am at my office in Chapel Hill, Brisbane, meeting with people or business in the local area who need some help. Sometimes I travel to other parts of Australia to investigate things that I might be working on in Parliament.
What do I do when I am in Canberra?
There are 150 members of the House of Representatives. While in Canberra I debate with colleagues about legislation, make speeches and question Ministers about their portfolio responsibilities and vote on legislation.
Also, while in Canberra I attend lots of meetings where we discuss solving problems or doing new things that can make people's lives better.
What do I do when I am in Ryan?
When I am in Ryan I meet with people like you!
I use this time to meet with people in the community and hear their ideas, views and problems, and then I try to do something about it.
Why did I want to go into Parliament?
I have a passion to make our community, our country and our world a better place. I am especially committed to doing everything I can to create equal opportunities for every citizen, particularly the young and the disadvantaged to pursue their goals and dreams. Our society is richer when all its people can fully participate in its opportunities and choices.
